My name is Merri and I started Comfort & Joy because I had irredeemably troubled skin, and nothing on the market seemed to help. I applied a life-long love of alternative, natural remedies to skin-care and started making preparations for myself, my family, and my friends (who, once they had seen how my skin had bloomed, wanted help!).

The name Comfort & Joy is very important – we offer a personalised service, enjoy tremendously what we do, and are totally committed to your welfare. We strive to bring you healthy, wholesome skin care, made with love, by us using organic, and wild-crafted ingredients.

Our philosophy is simple: we believe in products which are gentle, as unprocessed and natural as is possible. What we don't put in (no stearic acid, no triethanolamine, no DEAs, no mineral oil, no AHAs, no GMOs) is as important as what we do. We rely on completely natural vegetable butters and cold pressed oils, essential oils and infusions which are allowed to do their jobs unhindered by overheating. Indeed, our use of synthetics is strictly limited to those which actually provide a gentler alternative to a natural resource and can be counted on one hand. They are listed in a glossary – We don't grow mushrooms here – be informed and be empowered! Preservatives, which are primary skin irritants, are kept to a bare minimum and eliminated where we safely can. The products work wonderfully well, are very concentrated as typically they include between 65-100% active ingredients, and are really fun!

I feel I should say that while we make serious skin care, our products are not medications, and any condition should be seen by a relevant practitioner. But time and time again you've told me that us doing our thing has made a real difference, and that feels great! OUR LABELS

I’d like to explain the meaning behind our labels. Izzy designed them when she was eight. I had decided that the time had come to develop an image that reflected our love for where we live, our faith in the world and our hope for the future. I asked Iz to draw me a tree—and she came up with a fairy tale! Purple because it’s my very favourite colour (as if you hadn’t thought that one out for yourself!), with stars lighting the way, I believe that this encapsulates us. Our labels are your assurance that, in an increasingly disaffected and impersonal world, our bottles are filled with everything good. We do it all ourselves, right down to sticking on the labels—and if you get one which is a little wonky, then you know that it was probably applied very late at night with love and laughter, because that’s the meaning of Comfort & Joy!
