Ingredients lists must mean something! Don’t be a mushroom--read on about the synthetics I’ve had to use so that you know why. And please be absolutely assured that I keep up to date on all of the current research and am extremely happy with my choices.

Sodium laureth sulphate: a basic gentle bubbling agent. This is the easiest on your skin that I could find that would provide a basic lather. We use it in low concentrations and in conjunction with other agents to make a formulation gentle enough to be called Comfort & Joy. DO NOT confuse it with Sodium lauryl sulphate --very harsh and not to be given shelf space—we do NOT use this!

Cocamidopropyl betaine: Another even gentler bubbling agent.

Polysorbate 20: An extremely gentle bubbling agent! Put all of these together as we do, then you have a proper made with love bubble!

PEG-6000 distearate: This is a thickener. Please don’t hop up and down, we need a very tiny amount of this (and it is the kindest about) so that or washes and shampoos have enough viscosity to stay out of your (or your baby’s) eyes. Your happiness and that of your baby is important.

Methyl glucose sesquistereate: Ah, the sugar-derived emulsifier which makes our lotions possible. Lotion (like a salad dressing) would separate over time. We’ve found an extremely gentle way to hold a lotion together. This emulsifier is also a moisturising agent in its own right, so it shouldn’t irritate your skin like other emulsifiers can.

Dextrin Palmitate: Another sugar derivative which makes our lip glosses possible without resorting to the dreaded petroleum jelly (Yuch!) or silicones.

Parabens: These are preservatives, and used only where it would be dangerous not to. Preservatives have a nasty job to do, and they are not nice, but we do sometimes need them. We have done a lot of research into finding the gentlest and safest permitted by law for you.
